Fiscality in
Micenaean and Near Eastern Archives
This conference
has the aim of hosting a series of contributions on the fiscal
organisation of Mycenaean kingdoms and of the Ancient Near Eastern
kingdoms in various periods of history. The talks will be centred
around all the various types of known fiscal burdens, such as true and
proper fiscal obligations, payments owed in exchange for the
possession of land, corvée, etc. Moreover, talks on themes
linked to fiscality, such as the presence or absence of private
property and possible revisions of Polanyian theories will be welcome.
These topics, common to Mycenaean and to Ancient Near Eastern
economies, will be discussed in an interdisciplinary manner.
The Conference
will be held at the Soprintendenza Archivistica della Campania,
Palazzo Marigliano, via San Biagio dei Librai n°39, 80138 - Naples.
